We have collected a brief list of typical attractions within travelling distance of Gite Melleran. There is something for everyone and plenty to find for those who take the time to look. Cycling, walking or running in and around Melleran is very easy with quiet country roads and tracks over a gently undulating landscape filled with wildlife.

Situated in a small picturesque village with historical church, excellent restaurant/bar, bakery and tennis court .We are 6 km from the market towns of Chef-Boutonne and Sauze Vaussais with a choice of four supermarkets and local weekly markets where you can sample the French way of life. Historic Melle, with it's many fine Romanesque churches and silver mine is only 15 minutes away.

Some 40 minutes away are the large cities of Angouleme, Poitiers and Niort. Poitiers is renowned for it's fine medieval buildings, the home of Futuroscope, a vast complex of state-of-the-art technological attractions and cinematic wizardry. Visit the forest of chize, monkey valley at Romagne and the leisure lakes at Civray and Lambon (all 20 mins drive).

Over on the Atlantic coast, around an hours drive away, is the famous resort of La Rochelle, the isles of Re, Aix & Oleron, Rochefort and Royan. 40 minutes away is the Marais Poitevin, a mysterious world of silence in which waterways replace paths and country roads.
